I have arrived safely in London after a very long and tiresome journey. After arriving to the airport and checking my bags, I said goodbye to my parents before I went through security. It was difficult to turn around and see them waving, I know, I'm a sap. Luckily, my friend Chelsea was waiting for me on the other side so I was not alone. Shortly after I got to the gate, we boarded the plane. My seat was pretty far from Chels's but luckily I was able to switch and we sat right next to each other. The flight was about 6 hours and the seats were cramped and incredibly uncomfortable. It's safe to say that I didn't sleep at all. I had to just keep telling myself that London was on the other side. After arriving at Heathrow, we waited in line for customs for what seemed like FOREVER. It was so hot and a lot of people were dehydrated and tired; some people actually got physically sick.
After getting my first stamp in my new passport, we were transported by a few Mercedes buses (classy, I know) to the ICLC. There we had an orientation and were given packets of helpful information. Everyone was exhausted and I was definitely getting crankier by the second. At this point, we had been up for almost 24 hours. After our first orientation, my roommates (Chelsea and Alex) decided we would head to our flat. We are so lucky to have secured it before we got here because that process seems nerve racking. We loaded into a taxi only to be told that he couldn't bring us to our flat so he dropped us off at the tube. After we got to our tube stop, we got in another taxi to go to our flat where our landlord was waiting. I am incredibly sore for all the lugging. I am such a whimp haha. After that, we raced back to the London Center and had a meeting with a police officer to give us some safety tips and let us know what the rules and such were. I got a picture taken with his hat on. It should be a keeper considering I was lookin like a troll.
Chels and I then got some dinner at good ol Mickey D's and bought some cheap movies. We unpacked and watched a few movies. I passed out around 8 (good call on the sheets mom. ;) )and then I had to get up this morning around 7:30 for an internship orientation. My body is all out of whack, thanks jet lag.
Today, Chelsea and I ventured to Westminster and saw Big Ben, Parliament and the London Eye. Unfortunately the London Eye is closed until late January, but we're definitely going to do that and go to the aquarium, probably when our friends visit. We had some delicious fresh strawberries covered in whipped cream and chocolate.
On our way back to our flat, we got some real quality cell phones. And when I say quality, I mean probably the crappiest phone I have ever owned. Whatever, it gets the job done and looks like a wannabe blackberry.
After our phones, we decided to go into a convenience store and we each bought a bottle of wine. It was my first legal purchase so I was feelin pretty legit. Although when the woman asked to see my ID, I still panicked a little because I am such a n00b.
I'm pretty tired now, but I am trying to fall asleep so I can adjust to the time difference as soon as possible. I miss you all and hopefully I'll talk to you soon! Also, if anyone wants a postcard, email me your address to phoffmann013@gmail.com. :)
with lots of love,
Paige
