Yesterday was another relaxing day. We figure we have a few months to do all the touristy stuff, so we might as well get used to our area first before we venture too far away. Chelsea and I did a little food shopping and got coffee. Apparently the coffee was pretty disgusting. I'm not sure why, but all of the hot beverages here seem to be pretty watered down. I had hot chocolate on the plane, and it was literally chocolate water. I also bought milk yesterday and even that is quite different. It's not watery, but I just don't know if I dig it yet. I think it's safe to say that I may just stick to water for a bit.
We went to Belushi's for dinner which is a bar that is very close to our flat. We've been there for drinks before and our friends said the food was great so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, our service and food were below par. A few of us had to wait an extremely long time AND some of us didn't even get what we ordered! Apparently, the service last time was a lot different, so we might have to give it one more try.
We all came home and Chelsea and I decided to do a little pregaming [that is drinking before you go out and drink, for those of you not up to date with the lingo :) ] with some Rum and Coke while watching 16 and pregnant on Netflix. I don't think it gets much classier than that. We started getting ready to go out because we had heard of a club that was having student night at one of the local colleges. We took the tube and had a relatively short walk to the college. The cover charge was pretty cheap and we were excited to be surrounded by other students our age. It wasn't exactly what we expected, but it was still a fun time. I talked to a lot of people from all over the world during my countless moments at the bar. No, I am not an alcoholic, it just took forever to order a drink! For some reason, the drinks were pretty expensive AND the wait was ridiculous. Whatever though, it was fun and I had a great time with my friends.
On our way out, we needed to catch the 14 bus because the tube closes around 12:30. We started following this group of guys because they were trying to catch the 14 too. Unfortunately, they didn't know where they were going so we ended up flagging a cab. Our cab driver was wonderful. I am continually impressed with the attitudes of the people I encounter. Everyone is so helpful and sweet. Our cab driver was explaining how the taxi drivers here are required to go to school and take tests to ensure that they are qualified. He compared himself to a dad or grandfather who just wants to get everyone home safe. He also informed us that he had a 20 year old daughter and how "we shouldn't trust f*&*in anyone." (Imagine it in a British accent, everything just seems funnier here).
As we walked from where the taxi dropped us off to our flat, they were many drunk people in the streets because at this point, it was almost 2:30 am. We had a number of brief conversations with the people we encountered. There were even a couple of Australian boys, my heart melted a little with every word that came out of their mouths.
Alex moved in for good today! We're so excited to finally have our whole flat together. Chelsea and I are pretty settled it, so we're excited for Alex to settle in so we can all officially start our semester!
Today, Chelsea, Alex, Ayla and I are going to go shopping. I am PUMPED. Everyone is really getting along, so I can tell it's going to be a great semester. We're all interested in making friends with people who live in the area as well as other students. Each passing day makes me so much more excited for the rest of the semester. It also makes me realize how incredibly blessed I am to have the opportunity to do this.
Xx (apparently a European way to sign off that I am DEFINITELY picking up),
Paige
