So this past week has been spent settling in, buying stuff for the apartment, sorting out bills, etc with some drinking obviously interspersed.
Thursday and Friday, we went back to some bars we'd been at previously and once again, they didn't disappoint. Dicey's is the awesome beer garden/bar over in City Centre. When the weather's nice, it's awesome and they have a lot of weeknight drink deals, which totally doesn't hurt. McSorley's is right in Ranelagh village and is a late bar on weekends so we were out til the wee hours of the morning chatting it up with some Irish folks. Always a good time.

Saturday, we laid a bit low because we were exhausted. We tried out a new pub that we heard was pretty sweet called Smyth's, also right in Ranelagh Village. It once again has a beer garden and has a great vibe to it.
Sunday, we headed out to the country to Michelle's cousin's house for a BBQ. It was wonderful. We got to meet a bunch more of her family and the weather turned out to be nice! Their house is gorgeous and they have horses right in their back yard. Picture perfect is the best way to describe it all. Beautiful scenery, good conversation and a delicious home cooked meal including a ton of dessert!
We also got a chance to head over to a bar called The Bank on College Green to visit a friend of a friend of my dad's. He worked at a bar over in NY that we go to frequently so it was a much needed stop to meet him. We had a great lunch and a few pints before doing a bit more shopping.

Tuesday, we went to Dublinia, which is an exhibit on the Vikings and Medieval Ireland. It was really fun and interactive actually. We tried on a few costumes and learned all about the old days.

Wednesday, I finally got to Blarney Castle! Kissing the Blarney Stone has been on my bucket list for just about forever so I was pumped when Shell and I signed up for an all day bus tour that took us to Blarney, Cork and Cobh.

If you've never been to Blarney Castle, let me tell ya something, it ain't no walk in the park. You have to climb this horrifically narrow spiral staircase that is old and worn. Everyone is anxious to get to the top so you're packed in there. Shell and I were lucky enough to be behind an elderly, bit overweight couple who didn't know what they were getting into. As if I wasn't scared enough climbing up, their complaining, heavy breathing and false steps didn't help my anxiety that's for sure.
Once we finally got to the top, I was relieved, but Michelle was just getting more nervous. She's a bit afraid of heights so it was quite nerve-racking. Once you get to the stone, you lie down on your back and an older man slides you backwards until you are ACTUALLY upside down. We were terrified from start to finish, but we got our pictures and crossed it off the list so mission accomplished.

We also got to walk around Cork and Cobh on the bus tour. I didn't know what to expect from Cobh because I had never seen any pictures or anything, but it was BEAUTIFUL. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. The sun was shining, we got some great pictures and finished it off with a nice pint of Guinness outside of a pub.

Friday we finally got to the zoo! We had gone out the night before so taking a confusing hour long public bus ride wasn't completely ideal, but once we arrived in Phoenix Park all was right in the world again. Unfortunately a lot of the animals were put away for feeding or bath time or because the zoo hates us, but we still got to see some penguins, chimps, elephants and such. It was another beautiful day so we really couldn't complain.

We've really lucked out with the weather. It was picture perfect Thursday-Saturday and it's only supposed to get better. Yesterday it rained pretty much all day, but we had a nice relaxing Sunday lounging so it was A-OK.
